When I chose to be a mommy, I had no freaking idea, what I’m getting into. Well, I just knew I wanted to have babies. Lots of them. Adorable ones. Whom I could hug and kiss and raise. I always wondered, why the hell my mom always said, “you will know ‘IT’ when you will be a mom! What’s there in mommying?” Come on Mum. (LOLZ). Little did I know, that though it isn’t a rocket science to bring up these little being, but it is THE ROCKET SCIENCE!

Pure love blossomed between them and me. Little did I know, those babies stayed small only for a short time, and the job of a mommy would test me as a person. It’s crazy hard and yet I do it willingly! I love doing it, completely. I have found much joy in motherhood than any career option would have given me. BUT. It is still very essential to have a career or a hobby. Here’s why:

You can’t love others unless you love yourself :

Go back to that moment, when you are on the airplane…remember what the flight attendant says, ‘..in an unlikely event of a change in cabin pressure…secure your mask first…and then assist others..” There’s surely a reason behind this, right!? Help yourself, then you can help others. Love yourself. Only then you can love others!!

“You need to love yourself. Love yourself so much to the point, that your energy and aura rejects anyone who doesn’t know your worth”

Absence makes the heart grow fonder:

When I am away even for few hours ( freelancing has allowed me that flexibility), and then when I come back home, the re-union is beautiful. Our hugs last for few minutes. Yes. Few minutes. It wasn’t so when I use to be home all day. Rather I would, very unintentionally keep correcting them for every minute thing that they did. I WAS a nagging mother! Although I’m still obsessed with what are my kids doing at the moment..where are they..what are they playing..what are they reading, I have realized I don’t really need to have them within my eyes-shot. Remember. Your kids need quality time, not quantity!

Don’t you want to make them proud?

What is your hobby? Are you passionate about something? When did you last play your favorite game? Share them with your kids. Tell them about your childhood dreams..,what you wanted to become, when you were a little girl. It’s important for them to know your aspirations, your dreams, your fantasies! Develop your talents and skills. Join a cookery workshop if you are a ‘wannabe chef’. Do not feel selfish. It’s okay. Infact this gives a very important lesson to your children.

Your kids will grow up anyways!

A chick ready to fly away..
Steven Covey, the famed author, who wrote one of my favorite book, ‘7 habits of highly effective people” stated in his piece, we should begin with the end in mind. From this what I understand is, these years of growing up, are very special, to nurture them, to love them, to teach them the very foundation of a strong character. But I better not forget to work on becoming the person I want to be. And these little being will be all grown up and gone out of this nest, someday-leaving me all alone, with my better self! Do enjoy every bit of this awesome role of motherhood. But do not forget yourself. Keep learning, keep upgrading your skills, keep dreaming. While you are enjoying the blessing of motherhood, DO NOT lose sight of yourself! F.L.Y. (First Love Yourself).
